Arts and working life studies at the Uniarts Open University in Summer 2026

The Uniarts Helsinki Open University offers education in the arts and for the diverse demands of working life in the arts sector.

Visual and Sound Art

Explore the threshold between sensing and audition on the oven-fresh Sonic tactility course. The week-long workshop culminates in the group project prototype and demo.

Learn the basics of artistic work and expression methods by using the mokulito technique on Basics of mokulito printmaking. It is a fun and easy method of lithographic printmaking where artists draw or paint onto wood and then use it to print the picture onto a paper.

Music

Basics of conducting an orchestra includes studying baton technique, transpositions, score reading, and the basics of orchestral conducting.

Introduction to Choral Conducting: The purpose of the course is to practice how to conduct and rehearse the choral repertoire covered in the unit.

It’s also time to apply for the Inspiration Course in Global Choir Leadership, which takes place next academic year. Areas of study include rhythmic choir conducting techniques that embrace various musical cultures, vocal groove and creative approaches to working with a choir. Check out this video to learn more about the course!

If you want to learn about the performance practices of early music through one-to-one instrument instruction, ensemble playing, various theory and history courses and a seminar, you should apply for path studies in early music. Read more about the Open University path to early music studies.

Working Life Studies

“Finnish through art-based practices” will provide you with a toolbox that you can develop for your future language learning practice. It is led by artists who have discovered fun and experimental ways to learn Finnish and want to share them with others. Read more in the Open Campus blog.

On the summer 2026 working life courses, you will be able to develop your skills in a variety of ways. The program includes several courses that you can complete remotely or flexibly at your own pace.
